Tze Yong closing in on World Championships ticket

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's singles Ng Tze Yong is just one step away from making his World Championships debut in Tokyo on Aug 21-28.

The 22-year-old will earn a ticket if a player from the qualification list withdraws.

Tze Yong moved up to the highest position on the reserve list released on Saturday following the withdrawal of Algeria's Youcef Sabri Medel from the main draw.

Thailand's Khosit Phetpradab has been offered a world meet ticket, and if he declines, Tze Yong will get the slot.

The 64-field men's singles will be finalised on Aug 8.

World No. 5 Lee Zii Jia and Liew Daren are the only two Malaysians in the men's singles main draw.

Tze Yong is in Birmingham preparing for his Commonwealth Games debut.
