Malaysia set to KO Sri Lanka in badminton today

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia are leaving no stones unturned in their quest to reclaim the badminton mixed team gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Despite landing an easy knockout stage draw against Sri Lanka in the quarter-finals, Malaysia will go into the match with a full-strength line-up.

The team for today's match comprise Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing (mixed doubles), Ng Tze Yong (men's singles), Goh Jin Wei (women's singles), Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (men's doubles) and M. Thinaah-Pearly Tan (women's doubles).

On paper, Malaysia, the Gold Coast 2018 silver medallists, should win 3-0 with Jin Wei being expected to bag the winning point. This will set up a last four clash against either England or Canada, where Malaysia will finally face a real test.

Canada, with good singles players Brian Yang and Michelle Li in their ranks, seem capable of upsetting the home side.

Defending champions India and Singapore are expected to cruise to the last four in the bottom half by beating South Africa and Scotland respectively.
