'Fighter' Tze Yong takes silver in epic final

KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Tze Yong may have lost the Commonwealth Games men's singles gold today, but the world No 42, a late replacement for Lee Zii Jia, showed that he has a great future ahead.

In the epic men's singles final, Tze Yong fought tooth and nail before losing 19-21, 21-9, 21-16 to India's world No 10 Lakhsya Sen.

With the victory, Laksya, 21, became the fourth Indian men's singles champion in the Games after Prakash Padukone (1978), Syed Modi (1962) and P. Kashyap (2014).

For Tze Yong, it was nonetheless a fantastic campaign for him, considering he was not supposed to be part of the Malaysian team.

Tze Yong had defeated reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore and World Championships silver medallist K. Srikanth of India en route to the final.

The 22-year-old ended his campaign with one gold (mixed team) and one silver (men's singles).
