BAM gives Rexy the go-ahead to hire mixed doubles coach

KUALA LUMPUR: BAM coaching director Rexy Mainaky has been given the green light to hire a mixed doubles coach as soon as possible.

Yesterday, BAM president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria made it clear that Rexy will have a free hand in confirming the most suitable candidate to fill in the void left by Paulus Firman four months ago.

Currently, the mixed doubles department is headed by Teo Kok Siang.

Earlier, Timesport reported that two former doubles coaches, Chin Eei Hui and Lim Pek Siah, were linked with a move back to the national body, but until today nothing has been finalised.

Eei Hui, who inspired Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying to the 2016 Rio Olympic silver, is coaching independent pairs, while Pek Siah, who left BAM in 2018, is with the Singapore national team.

"I have communicated to Rexy and given him the green light to get a mixed doubles coach as soon as possible."

"We already have a budget, and I believe he is still searching for the right candidate," Norza said.

Norza also revealed that the council have approved a budget of US$20,000 (RM89,000) a year for a data analysis system proposed by BAM high-performance director Dr Tim Jones.

"Dr Tim will be doing his evaluation on his own. There is a system that he proposed earlier which is like a dashboard that will look at all angles of conditioning for the players.

"It is to beef up and strengthen our data analysis," Norza added.
