Smashing start for Justin

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Justin Hoh got his World Junior Championships off to a flying start when he reached the third round today.

After receiving a first round bye, shuttler Justin, who did not lose a match in last week's Suhandinata Cup (mixed team event), downed the United States' Adrian Mar King-Sun 21-19, 21-10 in the second round.

Justin, who is seeded third and a podium prospect for the national squad, will play Taiwan's Tsai Cheng-Han next for a place in the fourth round.

Despite only making his debut this year, Justin knows he has to make an impression as this is also his final world junior meet.

Among the other Malaysians who reached the third round yesterday were mixed doubles pairs Choi Jian Sheng-Lai Ting Cen and Bryan Jeremy Goonting-Low Xin Jie.

Jian Sheng-Ting Cen upset 16th seeds Daniel Franco-Elena Paya of Spain 21-9, 23-21, and will face China's Zhu Yi Jun-Liu Sheng Shu next for a place in the fourth round.

Bryan-Xin Jie scored a 21-18, 21-13 second round upset win over seventh seeds Kean Gabor Kigyos-Nikol Szabina of Bulgaria, and will meet Thailand's Witchaya Jintamuttha-Patida Srisawat next.
