Team Zii Jia issue statement on coach Indra's exit

KUALA LUMPUR: As expected, no detailed explanation was given as to why Team Lee Zii Jia (LZJ) dropped coach Indra Wijaya.

In an official statement issued today by Lee Zii Yii, Zii Jia's elder sister and manager, it read: "Hi all, it is with profound sadness that Team LZJ has decided to amicably part ways with coach Indra.

"We truly appreciate the efforts that coach Indra had made for Zii Jia and the team.

"He will always remain an important mentor to Zii Jia and the team.

"We wish coach Indra all the best in his future undertakings."

Earlier, Indra, 48, confirmed that he had parted ways with Zii Jia, following a meeting with the world No 2 and Zii Yii on Friday.

The Indonesian said that Zii Jia is exploring a new approach and wanted to continue moving professionally without a coach.

While declining to comment further on the matter, Indra said he would accept new challenges and offers.

He is currently back in Jakarta with his family and is likely to celebrate Christmas there.

It remains to be seen if the rest of Team LZJ will remain intact, following Indra's departure. The remaining members apart from Zii Yii, are Sandra Fiedler (physiotherapist), Liew Daren (assistant coach and sparring partner) and Lim Joe Heang (physical trainer).

No further details are available from Team LZJ for now.
