Women's doubles duo Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien went down in straight games 21-16, 21-9 to China's Li Wen Mei-Liu Xuan Xuan at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall.
Men's doubles pair Nur Izzuddin Rumsani-Goh Sze Fei suffered a similar fate, losing to China's Ren Xiang Yu-Tan Qiang 21-19, 21-17.
Earlier in the day former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei lost 21-13, 21-11 to Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon. Jin Wei's coach Nova Armada disclosed that she was hampered by a hamstring injury.
Tomorrow, the spotlight will be on Lee Zii Jia. The world No 2 takes on Indonesia's Shesar Hiren in his opening match.
Ng Tze Yong will also be in action against China's Li Shifeng.
