Tang Jie-Ee Wei look to make breakthrough

KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles duo Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei believe they can break into the world top-30 soon.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who were only paired up late last year, have already won two titles from three finals with the latest being the Iran International Challenge last week.

Currently ranked No 48 in the world, Tang Jie-Ee Wei are hungry for more, especially with the Olympic qualifiers fast approaching (May).

"Every match we've played so far, we've given our best," Ee Wei told Timesport recently.

"We are where we are because of our hard work. Hopefully, we will break into the world top-30 soon."

Tang Jie-Ee Wei are happy to be part of the squad for the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships (BAMTC) in Dubai next week but admitted that their inclusion in the All England (Super 1000) competition next month caught them by surprise.

"I don't know how we qualified (for All England) because our ranking is still low.

"This will be my first All England, I'm really looking forward to it," added Ee Wei.

For now the focus is on BAMTC and Tang Jie-Ee Wei are happy to be training alongside world No 6 Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing.

"Our team spirit is very high heading to the BAMTC despite it being a mixed squad of both national and independent players.

"Tang Jie and I just got back (from Iran) on Monday and the excitement is slowly building up," said Ee Wei.

Malaysia are in Group B for BAMTC with India, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
