Tze Yong ready for All England challenge despite illness

KUALA LUMPUR: Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) men's singles coach Hendrawan assured Ng Tze Yong will not miss the Super 1000 All England on March 14-19 despite feeling under the weather.

It is understood that the 23-year-old has not been feeling well for close to a month and told to take a few days off to recover.

"Tze Yong is not well, he's been coughing for close to a month. I gave him a few days off to recover," said Hendrawan when met at ABM today.

On whether this would affect the shuttler's preparation ahead of the European leg of the World Tour, Hendrawan replied: "He will definitely go for the All England."

As part of ABM's plan to boost Tze Yong's performance ahead of the Olympic qualifiers this year, the world No 28 was not registered for the German Open on March 7-12.

Instead, Tze Yong, who last competed at the Thailand Masters in January, will play in the All England and the Super 300 Swiss Open on March 21-26.

Tze Yong is also expected to compete in the Spain Masters (March 28-April 2) and Orlean Masters (April 4-9), but it will depend on the shuttler's condition after his first two tournaments.

Since breaking into the world's top 30 last year, Tze Yong's best result this year was reaching the last eight in Bangkok.

He lost in the second round of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open and Super 500 Indonesia Masters and was knocked out in the first round of the Super 750 India Open.
