Sze Fei-Hon Jian reach Thailand International semis

KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Sze Fei and Choong Hon Jian's newly formed combination seems to be clicking well as they checked into the Thailand International Challenge semi-finals in Nakhon Ratchasima today.

Sze Fei-Hon Jian, who joined forces only last month, came from behind to beat Lu Ming Che-Tang Kai Wei of Taiwan 20-22, 21-9, 21-17 in the last eight in Korat.

Sze Fei-Hong Jian will next take on second seeds Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani of Indonesia.

The duo are the only Malaysian survivors in the tournament following the elimination of men's doubles Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Low Juan Shen and mixed doubles Yap Roy King-Valeree Siow.

Roy King-Valeree lost 21-17, 11-21, 21-19 to Taiwan's Lee Chia Han-Liu Zi Xi, while Azriyn-Juan Shen retired with injury midway through the opening game.

Malaysia's challenge in the men's singles ended even earlier with top seed Soong Joo Ven as well as backup shuttlers Jacky Kok and Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin losing in the last 16 on Thursday.

Shaqeem Eiman Shahyar failed to clear the first hurdle and lost to unheralded El Salvadorian Uriel Fransisco Canjura Artiga.
