Shuttler Justin marches on at China Masters

KUALA LUMPUR: Fast-rising men's singles shuttler Justin Hoh continued his march at the Super 100 China Masters after advancing to the quarter-finals today.

Justin, who won the Uganda International Challenge last month, defeated Hong Kong's world No 236 Jason Gunawan 19-21 21-13 21-18 in 73 minutes in the second round at the Ruichang Sports Park Gym.

Justin, who is part of Malaysia's Sea Games squad, will face Taiwan's seventh seed Su Li Yang, who defeated China's Zhu Xuan Chen 17-21, 21-11, 21-9, in the last eight tomorrow.

Commenting on his win, Justin said it was a difficult match against Jason.

"Jason has good skills, and he made it difficult for me throughout the match. Luckily, I held my nerves to get the win. Tomorrow, I will face another tough opponent from Taiwan. I, however, have to condition my body better ahead of matches.

"Li Yang is a quality player. I have to be tactically prepared for this match," said the world No 85 today.

Meanwhile, compatriot Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin crashed out after going down 12-21, 21-15, 12-21 to China's Sun Fei Xiang.

In the doubles, fifth seed Choong Hon Jian-Goh Sze Fei reached the quarter-finals after overcoming China's Li Zhi Yang-Xiang Yu 21-10, 21-9.

The Malaysians will face the winner of the second-round match between compatriots Beh Chun Meng-Goh Boon Zhe and China's Ren Cheng Ming-Tian Yi Chuan next.

In the women's doubles, unseeded Keng Shu Liang-Zhang Chi of China stunned fourth-seed Malaysian pair Cheng Su Hui-Cheng Su Yin 21-9, 21-10.

However, Malaysia's fifth seeds Go Pei Kee-Valeree Siow overcame China's Wang Hui-Yang Xiao Yu 21-16, 21-16.They will take on Taiwan's top seed Hsieh Pei Shan-Tseng Yu-Chi in the quarter-finals.
