No more Malaysian show in Vietnam

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's challenge at the Vietnam International Challenge came to an end today after Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi fell in the men's doubles semi-finals.

The month-old combination of Roy King-Wan Arif put up a valiant effort but went down 21-15, 18-21, 21-16 to Indonesia's Alfian Eko Prasetya-Ade Yusuf Santoso at the Tay Ho Sports Complex in Hanoi.

The Indonesians will take on South Korea's third seeds Jin Yong-Na Sung Seung in the final. The Koreans beat Lu Ming Che-Tang Kai Wei of Taiwan 21-15, 18-21, 21-15 in the semis.

Hosts Vietnam will have two representatives in the finals. The men's singles final will see homester Duc Phat take on Takuma Obayashi of Japan.

Duc Phat beat Chan Yin Chak of Hong Kong 22-20, 21-18 in the semis while Takuma beat Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto, who retired in the third set, 21-16, 19-21, 13-5.

The women's singles final will pit Vietnam's second seed Nguyen Thuy Linh against Japan's Asuka Takahashi. Thuy Linh defeated Japan's Hirari Mizui 16-21, 21-16, 21-19 while Asuka overcame Taiwan's Lin Hsiang Ti 21-17, 21-19.

The women's doubles semifinals saw Lee Yu Lim-Shin Seung Chan of South Korea overcome Japanese Hinata Suzuki-An Uesugi 21-9, 15-21, 21-10 for a title decider against Indonesians Jesita Putri Miantoro-Febi Setianingrum. Jesita-Febi stunned Taiwan's second seeds Hsieh Pei Shan-Tseng Yu-Chi 21-17, 21-16 in the last four.

The mixed doubles final will see Indonesians Jafar Hidayatullah-Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata locking horns with Thailand's Tanupat Viriyangkura-Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn.

Jafar-Aisyah beat Kim Young Hyuk-Lee Yu Lim of South Korea 10-21, 21-17, 21-16 in the semis while Tanupat-Ornnicha subdued Hong Kong's Chang Tak Ching-Lui Lok Lok 22-20, 17-21, 21-17.
