KUALA LUMPUR: Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah continued their resurgence in form with a convincing first-round victory at the Indonesia Masters on Tuesday.
The world No. 7 Malaysians eased past Taiwan's Hsu Ya Ching-Sung Yu Hsuan 21-16, 21-19 in just 32 minutes at the Istora Senayan Stadium in Jakarta.
Pearly-Thinaah, who suffered a first-round exit at the Malaysia Open, have since rebounded strongly.
They reached the semi-finals of the India Open last week before falling to South Korea's Kim Hye Jeong-Kong Hee Yong.
The Malaysian duo will face another Taiwanese pair, Hu Ling Fang-Jheng Yu Chieh, in the second round on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in the men's doubles, Malaysia's professional pair Lim Tze Jian-Wong Tien Ci were no match for Taiwan's Wang Chi Lin, a double Olympic gold medallist, and his new partner Chiu Hsiang Chieh.
The Taiwanese pair won 21-17, 21-17 in just 30 minutes.
