KUALA LUMPUR: Women's doubles Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing achieved their best result on the World Tour when they upset world No. 19 Tanish Crasto-Ashwini Ponnappa of India to reach the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters in Jakarta today.
World No.66 Pei Kee-Mei Xing fought back from a difficult position in the third game to secure a 13-21, 24-22, 21-18 win in a nerve-wrecking 77-minute battle in the second round.
The Malaysians saved two match points at 18-20 in the second game to drag the match into the decider where they also staged a fightback to register their finest hour on the tour.
Pei Kee-Mei Xing were down 3-7 in the third game but scored an impressive 11 points on the trot to pull ahead to 14-7 to turn the match around at the Istora Senayan.
Despite a late fightback from Tania-Ashwini, the national No. 2 managed to consolidate their lead to ensure their first appearance in the quarter-final stage of a Super 500 event.
The national pair's previous best success was winning the Malaysia Super 100 title in October.
They will next meet title contenders Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian of China, who defeated compatriots Li Yi Jing-Luo Xu Min 21-11, 21-19, in the last eight
Their progress means that Malaysia now have eight representatives in the quarter-finals.
Women's doubles Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah advanced to the last eight earlier.
Also in the last eight are men's doubles Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and Wan Arif Wan Junaidi, and mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin.
