KUALA LUMPUR: Women's doubles Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah today proved that their win over Japan's Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto in the India Open last week was no fluke.
They beat the Japanese pair again to reach the Indonesia Masters semi-finals in Jakarta.
The world No. 7 Malaysians posted a 21-16, 21-15 win over Yuki-Mayu in 48 minutes in the last eight.
It was Pearly-Thinaah's second win over Yuki-Mayu in three meetings.
Pearly-Thinaah were unperturbed by their opponents' reputation as they opted for an offensive approach.
There had been concerns about Pearly-Thinaah's form after they suffered a shock first round defeat to Indonesia's world No. 65 Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti at the Malaysia Open.
However, national coaching director Rexy Mainaky felt that Pearly-Thinaah may take a bit of time to get used to the training of Rosman Razak who took charge of the women's doubles department in November last year.
Pearly-Thinaah will next meet world No. 146 Lee Yeon Woo-Lee Yu Lim of South Korea in the Indonesia Masters
semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's world No. 66 Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing bowed out in the last eight after losing 21-5, 21-13 to China's world No. 59 Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian in 31 minutes.
