A disappointed Fadhil vows to charge back

TRACK cyclist Fadhil Zonis has vowed to bounce back after a below-par performance at the Commonwealth Games.

The 24-year-old finished 21st in the men's individual sprint qualifiers with 10.310s and did not make the top-16.

He also failed to clear the repechage first round (keirin) and came in 10th in the 1km time trial on 1:01.734s, which was way off his Asian record (sea level) of 1:00.305s.

"I've been training very hard for this Commonwealth Games but I couldn't deliver the way I wanted," he said on social media.

"I blame myself for this poor performance. It's hard to swallow but this is the truth.

"I have, however, learnt a lot, and I will come back stronger.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported me from the beginning until now.

"And a big congratulation to my teammate Shah Firdaus Sahrom. The (keirin) bronze feels like gold to him and to us as a team as well," added Fadhil.

The Selangor-born has lost weight in recent months as head coach John Beasley hopes to see him hit a lean and mean 84kg frame from a previous high of 90kg for the World Championships in France in October.
