Azizul to be back next month after heart surgery

KUALA LUMPUR: Olympic silver medallist Azizulhasni Awang, who had corrective heart surgery four months ago, will rejoin the national team at the National Velodrome in Nilai next month.

Azizul underwent an operation in Melbourne in April after he was diagnosed with anomalous aortic origin of the right coronary artery. He missed the recent Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

But he recently resumed training in Melbourne, and is being monitored by Australia's former world champion Shane Kelly from the Victorian Institute of Sport.

Coach John Beasley, who is training the national cyclists in Nilai, said Azizulhasni should be able to rejoin them sometime next month.

"I am in frequent contact with Azizul and he has been going through light training for the past few weeks."
