TSG's Sainbayar aims to charge up the GC class

KUALA LUMPUR: With one more climbing stage to go, Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team's (TSG) Jambaljamts Sainbayar has not given up hope on making a dent in the general classification (GC) at Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL).

Sainbayar is currently 10th in the yellow jersey competition, two minutes and 43 seconds adrift of current leader Ivan Sosa (Movistar).

The gap between Sainbayar to third-placed Einer Rubio (Movistar) is, however only 41 seconds.

The Mongolian rider remains optimistic of moving up the overall standings.

"We still have stage seven (Kuah to Gunung Raya) to compete in and we are for sure going to go all out to fight for a good spot higher up in the GC," said Sainbayar after Thursday's queen stage climb to Genting Highlands.

"There are a few riders in front of me whom I believe we can still chase down. We are definitely going to keep fighting.

"It was the first time I have raced in the queen stage here (Genting) and the whole team worked really well.

"They did their best to get me to the front, and I managed to stay in the front group for the last four km."

Sainbayar, the 2021 Tour of Thailand yellow jersey winner, crested the summit finish at Genting in 11th place.

The seventh stage on Monday will see riders covering 90.8km featuring a category 1 summit finish at Gunung Raya (842m).

The 26-year-old Sainbayar, who joined TSG last year, is also in a strong position to fight for the white jersey as he is only 10 seconds behind Asian classification leader Andrew Zeits of Astana.
