Azizulhasni takes keirin silver at Nations Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Former world No1 Azizulhasni Awang made an impressive return to elite track cycling when he took the keirin silver at the UCI Track Nations Cup in Jakarta today.

The Pocket Rocketman, who underwent open heart surgery about a year ago, gave a tough fight but could not stop world champion Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen from crossing the finish line first in the final. Israel's Mikhail Yakovlev finished third.

The Terengganu born started his campaign at the Rawamangun Velodrome on the wrong foot when he was relegated from Heat One.

However, he bounced back in the repechage to reach the final.

Compatriot Shah Firdaus Sahrom also reached the final but crashed out during the race.
