Luqman, Wan Kuzri ready for AFC challenge

BELGIUM-BOUND Luqman Hakim Shamsudin and United States-based Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal could make a difference for the national Under-19 team at the AFC Championship in Uzbekistan in October.

Coach Brad Maloney can't wait to watch the two high-profile players representing the country at the tournament.

The trainees, including Luqman and Wan Kuzri, reported for the second phase of centralised training at the PKNS Complex in Kelana Jaya yesterday.

While Luqman was absent during the recent first phase of training, Wan Kuzri flew in from the US to attend the camp.

"To my understanding, Luqman has an agreement with his Belgian club (KV Kortrijk). The forward will be available for the AFC Under-19 Championship," said Maloney.

"I am excited to see Luqman and midfielder Wan Kuzri in the team. It opens up a lot of possibilities for us.

A confident Luqman, 18, claimed he is already guaranteed a spot in Maloney's final squad for the Uzbekistan assignment.

"However, I am not taking things for granted. I will still give my 100 per cent in training to impress the coaches," said Luqman.

Meanwhile, FA of Malaysia (FAM) have penalised Premier League side Kelantan with an immediate three-point deduction after failing to settle salary arrears of players and officials within the given deadline for cases that were decided by the national body's status committee recently.

The decision was made in the First Instance Body (FIB) meeting, chaired by Sheikh Nasir Sheikh Sharif via teleconferencing with other committee members, yesterday.

Kelantan made the required payment according to the first and second instalment deadline on Jan 31 and Feb 29 respectively.

However, the club failed to settle the third instalment deadline on April 30.

The FAM will inform the Malaysian Football League (MFL) for the execution of the points deduction.

The FAM Club Licensing FIB have given Kelantan until Aug 31 to settle the outstanding salaries of players and officers to meet the club licensing requirements.

If they fail, they will not obtain a license to compete next season in the M-League.
