Embrace 'beautiful challenge'

Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) coach Benjamin Mora said it would be easy to feel overwhelmed by the packed Asian Champions League (ACL) fixtures but called on his players to embrace the "beautiful challenge" as they hope to make heads turn in the tournament.

The reigning Super League champions will play six matches in the space of 16 days in the ACL in Bangkok.

JDT are in Group G with Japan's Nagoya Grampus, Thailand's Ratchaburi FC and South Korea's Pohang Steelers.

The former AFC Cup champions open their campaign against Nagoya on Tuesday.

Mora said the ACL will be the main highlight of JDT following their withdrawal from last year's edition due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

To counter the hectic schedule, Mora has brought 30 players to Bangkok for the campaign.

"The ACL is a great tournament. It will be an opportunity to show that we can play against the best clubs in Asia.

"We will do our best to make an impression.

"It is important to have a winning mentality when we start our campaign as we will be up against strong teams from Japan, Korea and Thailand.

"We will fight until the end and try to finish in a better place," said Mora.

On the schedule, Mora added: "We will rotate the players accordingly during the tournament to get the best out of the team."
