FAM don't have any name yet

SO, who will take over the important post now that Ong Kim Swee is walking out the FAM door? That's the question on the minds of football followers.

Kim Swee, who guided Malaysia to the 2011 Sea Games gold, has quit the FAM job to join Super League team Sabah as their head coach.

The football fraternity is now abuzz with the question who will be the new FAM technical director? It seems the answer won't be coming so soon.

FAM said they have yet to hold any discussions on the matter, and they don't have a list of candidates yet.

FAM general secretary Saifuddin Abu Bakar said Kim Swee will only officially vacate his post on Oct 1, and they are in no hurry to fill it.

"We have not had any discussions about Kim Swee's replacement yet.

'There must also be an endorsement from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) because the candidate must satisfy the qualification of a technical director.

"We do not have a deadline to fill the slot. Currently, the technical department is handling matters, overseeing everything, and the unit is still functioning."

Though FAM have yet to identify any candidates, there have been speculations.

Among those linked to the national job are former AFC and FAM technical director Lim Kim Chon and National Football Development Programme technical director Saad Ichalelene.

Kim Chon, the older brother of former Mokhtar Dahari Academy director Lim Teong Kim, is currently FAM's head of coaching education.

The 64-year-old had also previously worked at Fifa, the Maldives FA, and was also the FA of Thailand head of coaching education.

French-Algerian Ichalelene, 34, who was a former Paris Saint-Germain academy head coach, played for PSG B, Nimes Olympique and USM Alger between 2004 and 2011.
