Turtles sink Selangor in Malaysia Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu continued their fine form in the Malaysia Cup with a 2-1 win over Selangor in a Group B tie at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak tonight.

Ivory Coast midfielder Dechi Marcel N'Guessan opened the scoring for the Turtles with a shot from outside the box in the 23rd minute before English midfielder Lee Tuck doubled the lead in the 52nd minute.

Selangor, however, reduced the deficit in the 75th minute through Ashmawi Yakin's close range strike, but it was not enough for the Red Giants to mount a comeback.

The win enabled Terengganu to top Group B with six points from two matches. Another Group B match saw Kuching United and Perak sharing points with a 2-2 draw at the Pasir Gudang Stadium.

The Cats opened the scoring through Brazilian midfielder Hudson Dias in the ninth minute before the Seladang equalised through youngster Adib Raop from a penalty kick in the 50th minute after Ghanaian forward Nana Pokku was brought down by Brazilian defender Aylton Alemao.

Kuching took the lead again through Alif Hassan's spectacular long-range freekick in the 67th minute but it lasted only three minutes as Perak equalised once again though Aizat Safuan's attempt inside the box in the 70th minute.

Premier League runners-up Sarawak United continued their giant-killing run by stunning Super League side Sri Pahang 1-0 in their Group A match at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.

Former national Under-23 player Tommy Mawat Bada struck the winner in the 61st minute in a cagey match to hand his side their second win in the group. On Sunday, Sarawak United had upstaged Penang 3-0.

Penang's hopes of bouncing back from their opening defeat fizzled out into a 1-1 draw with Kuala Lumpur City at the City Stadium.

The Panthers' Tajikistan forward, Sheriddin Boboev, broke the deadlock in the 77th minute but the City Boys equalised through Colombian midfielder Romel Morales three minutes after regulation time.
