What will happen to 'absent' Rizal?

SABAH defender Rizal Ghazali has responded to the FA of Malaysia's (FAM) show cause letter on Friday after failing to report for national training last Monday.

The 29-year-old, it is learnt, explained that he has to take care of his parents who are in need of medical attention.

Rizal's mother is said to have suffered a stroke in December, when he was turning out for Harimau Malaya in the AFF Cup in Singapore.

Since then, the former Kedah player has been dividing his time between Kota Kinabalu and Baling as he has to take his parents for follow-up doctors' appointments.

On Saturday, Rizal shared on Instagram a post of his father in a hospital which has led to talks on why he failed to report for national duty.

FAM secretary general Saifuddin Abu Bakar said: "We received the letter (from Rizal) on Friday. He has family matters. I think he will not attend (national team training)."

National team coach Kim Pan Gon is expected to name his final list of 29 players today before they travel to Singapore tomorrow for a Tri-Nation meet involving the Philippines and Singapore.

Rizal has not made any comments to the press on FAM's show cause letter.

On what actions he will face from FAM, Saifuddin said: "We have not made any decision yet. I will have to speak to the team management regarding his case and the evaluation will be done by them, to see how to assess his explanation," he said.

"It depends on them on what to do next."

The matter will be brought up to the disciplinary board. Previously, Saifuddin had said that Rizal could be fined up to RM25,000 or suspended from domestic league games.
