Malaysia share spoils with Singapore in AFF Women's Championship group match

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia were held to a 0-0 draw by arch-rivals Singapore in their opening AFF Women's Championship Group A match in Manila today.

Both teams had chances to score but were wasteful. National coach Jacob Joseph said Singapore came prepared for the match.

"Singapore played four friendly matches, including against Hong Kong, before the tournament, while we had only two friendlies against Bangladesh. They were well-prepared today," said Jacob.

"I wanted three points, but we could not convert our chances. We play Indonesia next, and I hope we will do better."

Malaysia take on Indonesia on Wednesday. Thailand, Australia and the Philippines make up the group.

"We are in a tough group, and a win over Indonesia will offer us the confidence before we face favourites Thailand, Australia and the Philippines," he added.
