Malayan Tigress looking at damage control

KUALA LUMPUR: Things are not working out for the national women's football team in the ongoing AFF Championships in Manila.

So, there would be a change of target, said national coach Jacob Joseph today.

He had planned for Malaysia to get maximum points in their first two games, but it didn't happen. They dropped points instead.

On Monday, the Malayan Tigress drew 0-0 with Singapore, and on Wednesday, they drew 1-1 against Indonesia.

With just two points, Malaysia is third in Group A, behind hosts the Philippines and Thailand.

Jacob's team are scheduled to play the Philippines today, Thailand on Sunday and Australia on Tuesday. He is not confident they can collect full points.

"I was upset with the players (in the earlier games). Once again, they became scared in the opponents' half.

"For our next matches, it will be about damage control more than anything else," Jacob said.

"We know these teams are better than us, which was why we had targeted for maximum points against our neighbours, Singapore and Indonesia."
