KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) humiliated reigning Malaysia Cup champions KL City, winning 5-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in a Super League clash on Monday.
Top scorer Bergson da Silva scored a brace in the sixth and 25th minutes, while Leandro Velazquez (55th minute), Fernando Forestieri (71st) and Safawi Rasid (84th) completed the rout.
JDT, the eight-time champions, are on a 13-match unbeaten streak in the Super League and lead the standings with 35 points, four more than second-placed Sabah.
KL remain fourth on 18 points.
The defeat does not augur well for KL ahead of their AFC Cup zonal semi-finals against Vietnam's Viettel on Aug 10.
Meanwhile, Steven Rodriguez's double in the 32nd and 67th minutes earned Sri Pahang a 2-0 win over Kedah at Darulmakmur Stadium.
With the win, Pahang move up to ninth with 13 points.
As for Kedah, they will now prepare for their AFC Cup Zone semi-finals against Indonesia's PSM Makassar on Aug 9.
At the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, Terengganu were held 0-0 by PJ City.
