AFF Cup: Go for glory, Faisal tells his Harimau Malaya teammates

KUALA LUMPUR: Forward Faisal Halim believes the 1-0 win over Myanmar today will motivate the new-look Harimau Malaya to go for glory in the AFF Cup.

Faisal scored the only goal of the Group B match in the 52nd minute after receiving a Safawi Rasid pass at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon.

"I am very happy with the win. It was a tough game for us. We came here for the three points, and we got it," said Faisal after the match.

"I thank the Malaysian fans who came here to support us.

"We need to carry this positive momentum throughout the tournament. Every single game is important in this competition.

"This win is just not about my goal. It was a team effort — We win and lose as a team."

Jordanian referee Ahmed Faisal Mohammad Al Ali awarded Myanmar a penalty in stoppage time for a Sharul Nazeem Zulpakar handball. However, national goalkeeper Ahmad Syihan Hazmi Mohamad denied Myanmar's Win Naing Tun attempt.

Harimau Malaya will entertain Laos on Saturday in their second group match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Others teams in Group B are Vietnam and Cambodia.
