Happy hunting for Pan Gon's hungry Harimau

KUALA LUMPUR: Coach Kim Pan Gon said Harimau Malaya's hunger for success drove them to a magnificent 5-0 win over Laos in an AFF Cup match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

They made mincemeat of the hapless Indochina team for a goals feast and posted their second win in Group B after edging Myanmar 1-0 on Wednesday.

A high five for Malaysia, but Pan Gon said they could have scored as many as eight or nine goals.

Actually five goals were still short of Pan Gon's target as he had wanted six or more.

"Our aim was to score more than six goals. Our players tried their best and we could have scored more than eight or nine goals," said the South Korean coach.

"Our game was sometimes good and in some parts we built up... but no complaints."

Pan Gon attributed Malaysia's rousing win to hunger, passion and commitment.

Malaysia found the net through naturalised player Sergio Aguero (29th minute), Faisal Halim (65th and 68th), Haqimi Azim Rosli (77th) and Stuart Wilkin (87th).

"We struggled in the first half because Laos were compact and gave our players little space."

Pan Gon, who seldom praises players individually, couldn't but help compliment Faisal. "He (Faisal) is good," he said.

Faisal has scored three goals in two matches. He got the winner against Myanmar.

Laos coach Michael Weiss said it has not been easy for him to train a young team that had conceded 11 goals in their first two games.
