Red Giants gird for tough fight

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor coach Tan Cheng Hoe expects the competition to be extra tough in the Super League this year and is working hard to make sure his team are prepared when the season starts on Feb 26.

Cheng Hoe is not completely satisfied with his squad yet and will be putting them through a last friendly match this week to give his new imports a chance to gel with their teammates.

"We have seen some good results (during pre-season friendlies) but overall, we are not where we want to be yet," said Cheng Hoe.

"But there is still a week left for us to work hard and get ready for the first game. Improvements will come game-by-game.

"The competition this season is going to be tough. The other teams have also prepared well and have got (signed) the best locals, we can see the impact.

"It will be tough but I hope Selangor will do well."

Meanwhile, Cheng Hoe's assistant Ramon Marcote said the only aspect that is lacking currently is the squad's chemistry.

"Right now we have made good progress, it's about getting the chemistry right with the players," said Marcote.

"Hopefully Yohandry Orozco's arrival will help build confidence in the team because the league is starting soon."

Venezuelan midfielder Orozco is the latest addition to the Selangor squad but there could be signings made later on this season.

Selangor chief executive officer Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon does not rule out the possibility of them bringing Ifedayo Olusegun back to the club when the mid-season transfer window opens.

This will, however, depend on their requirements at the time as they already have enough players in the forwards department for now.
