KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor were lucky not to drop points in the narrow 1-0 win over minnows Kelantan United in Sunday's Super League match at MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya.
Coach Tan Cheng Hoe admitted the Red Giants were weak in making decisions, especially in front of their opponent's goal.
Despite the shortcoming, Cheng Hoe said there were also positives in Selangor's game.
"It was a hard-fought three points for the club. The players are still working on their chemistry and understanding," said Cheng Hoe after the match.
"We knew Kelantan United would be defensive, but still, we created scoring chances.
"The players' fitness level is not satisfactory. However, we can work on this aspect. Our young players also need to step up."
The former national coach added that midfielders Brendan Gan, Yohandry Orozco and Alex Agyarkwa must work on their understanding.
Selangor took the lead in the 40th minute through defender Yazan Al-Arab.
Kelantan United coach Tomas Trucha said his team showed promise and will improve as the league progresses.
"We wanted to win but ended up not earning a point. However, we gave them a good fight," said Trucha.
In Paroi, Negri Sembilan drew 1-1 with Sri Pahang in another match.
Casagrande scored for the Deer in the 21st minute, while Malik Ariff replied for the Elephants in the 48th minute.
Sri Pahang coach Fandi Ahmad said his team did not play to their true potential on Sunday.
"I am still tweaking the team and finding the right mix of players.
"It was windy, and it affected our passing," said Fandi.
