Bidoglio: I don't want to think about the league title

JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) inched closer to the Super League title after drubbing Sabah FC 4-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium yesterday (Jan 11).

JDT head coach Hector Bidoglio is, however, determined to keep his charges focused as they still have other competitions on their plate.

The Southern Tigers, who have only dropped two points this season, sit comfortably atop the league table on 49 points with only seven matches left to play this season.

They are 14 points ahead of second-placed Selangor though the latter have a game in hand.

"I don't want to think about the league title, we still have some way to go," said Bidoglio yesterday.

"We also have to think about other competitions besides the league. We have an important match coming up which is the Malaysia Cup semi-finals."

JDT will face Terengganu FC in the Malaysia Cup semi-finals, first leg on Friday (Jan 17).

Bidoglio said the match against Sabah was tougher than the 4-0 scoreline suggests.

"We knew it would be a difficult game. It was challenging in the first half because we did not play well and our ball control was not satisfactory," added the Argentine.

"Our positioning was also not great in the first half.

"But in the second half, our players played without pressure and were more patient in attack. They were able to dominate their positions and move the ball freely along both flanks."

JDT were forced to wait until the second half before being able to score thanks to Juan Muniz in the 51st and 69th minutes and Bergson da Silva in the 79th and 83rd (penalty).

The other league match yesterday saw Kuching FC defeating PDRM FC 2-0 at the Selayang Stadium thanks to strikes from Petrus Shitembi (15th) and Jordan Mintah (88th).
