In-form Kelly in solid position in Dallas

WASHINGTON: Malaysia's Kelly Tan is just three strokes behind joint leaders, Yealimi Noh, Anna Nordqvist and Jessica Korda, after recording a two-day 141 (73-68) total at the LPGA Volunteers of America Championship.

Yealimi, 19, fired her second-best round of the year to stand on four-under 138 alongside American compatriot Jessica, who fired a second straight 69, and Sweden's Anna, who shot 68 at The Colony in Dallas on Friday.

"I feel really good about how I'm hitting it," Yealimi said.

"I hit a lot of greens today. I hit a lot close and made the putts so that was nice."

Kelly is using the tournament as a build up for the US Open at the Champions Golf Club in Houston on Dec 10-13.

The Malaysian impressed in her previous Major start with a joint 13th spot at the Women's PGA Championship. It was the best result ever by a Malaysian — man or woman — in a Major.

The 27-year-old, whose confidence has been boosted with a series of consistent displays since the LPGA Tour restarted in July, knows she can achieve much more with better preparations.

It will be third appearance at the US Open.

She missed the cut in her 2014 debut but notched a creditable tied-32nd placing two years later. - AGENCIES
