Jeneath wins Australian Junior Amateur title, gets Open spot

Malaysia's Jeneath Wong added another prestigious title to her glittering career with a five-stroke win in the Australian Junior Amateur Championship on Friday.

The Melbourne-based golfer, representing Metropolitan Golf Club, carded rounds of 67, 72, 74 and 75 for an even-par 288 total to finish ahead of South Australia's Amelia Whinney (293) at the Gold Creek Country Club in Canberra.

The success, her third this year after a win at the Victorian Junior Amateur and a successful defence of the Riversdale Cup, earned the 16-year-old a spot in next year's Women's Australian Open.

"I'm really happy to win this after two Riversdale Cups in a row," Jeneath told www.golf.org.au.

She was also aware the win had
secured her a start in the Women's
Australian Open.

"I'm very excited to play with the pros. I'll learn more stuff from them.

"I'm really happy to see my name on the trophy, especially with Lee Minjee, who is one of my idols."
