Now Ashley makes country proud in Michigan

KUALA LUMPUR: Another week, another Malaysian makes her presence felt in the United States collegiate golf scene.

After Zulaikah Nurziana Nasser, this time it was Ashley Goh who did the country proud when she came out tops in the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational in Michigan yesterday,

Former Singapore Junior Open champion Ashley, a third-year student at Central Michigan University (CMU), closed with a five-over 77 to finish the 54-hole tournament on two-over 218 total at the Eagle Crest Golf Club.

She won by five shots from the three nearest pursuers: Daphne van Son (University of Akron), Bridget Boczar (Oakland University) and MacKenzie Moore (Bowling Green State University), who shot 75, 77 and 78 respectively.

It was Ashley's maiden triumph after making 15 starts for CMU, where she notched seven top-10 finishes.

"Ash played so well all week," CMU coach Ryan Williams told cmuchippewas.com, the team's athletics website.

"I was extremely impressed with the way she played the golf course. I rarely saw her out of position. She just kind of picked it apart, shot by shot.

"Today she had all the pressure, and she knew what she was playing for, and she went out and got it done."

Last week, Zulaikah Nurziana, representing Sam Houston State University, won the Remax Prime Properties Invitational in Texas for her third collegiate title.
