Gavin notches another fine DP World Tour finish

KUALA LUMPUR: National golfer Gavin Kyle Green continued to turn his season around on the DP World Tour (European Tour) when he chalked up a second top-10 finish at the Jonsson Workwear Open in South Africa today.

The 29-year-old signed off his week at The Club at Steyn City, Johannesburg, with a two-under 70 to finish in a tie for the sixth spot on an 18-under 270 total.

The title was won by Germany's Nick Bachem, who fired a 64 for 24-under 264 to run away with a four-shot victory over home duo Hennie Du Plessis and Zander Lombard.

Following a strong display in the first three rounds, Gavin would be disappointed for failing to

mount a strong challenge when it mattered most.

After firing an opening 66 on Thursday, he added pairs of 67s to sit just one shot off the lead in a four-way tie for second that included Bachem and Du Plessis at the end of the penultimate stage.

In fact, he was still in the title race after birdieing three of his four opening holes before gaining another stroke on the 10th hole.

But then disaster struck. All his good work was undone in just two holes when he dropped two successive double bogeys at the par-three 12th and par-four 13th.

To his credit, Gavin did bounce back brilliantly with a hat-trick of birdies over the three-hole stretch starting from the 15th.

However, he would concede another shot after bogeying the final hole to end up four rungs lower from where he started the day.

The result still marked Gavin's best result to date following his tied-eighth finish at the Indian Open last month, which ended a run of four missed cuts since the start of the new season.

Two weeks ago, he also did well at the Kenya Open by finishing tied-15th.

Gavin's decent finish in South Africa has moved him up by 20 rungs to No 86 in the Race to Dubai rankings.
