'The Alligator' adapts to pandemic challenges

ONE Championship fighter Agilan Thani is not in a rush to get back in the cage after a string of mixed results.

Agilan, who has lost two of his last four fights, is keen on improving himself and getting in a solid block of preparation before deciding on his next bout.

The 25-year-old admitted that preparing for fights has been a tricky affair in the Covid-19 pandemic era.

"ONE Championship is a great company who has always kept me busy.

"Despite ONE offering (me) fights, it is really hard to compete frequently due to lockdowns and gym issues," said Agilan.

"It is challenging, but a fighter has to adapt, and that is what I am doing now.

"I don't want to go into the circle (ring) unprepared. I am doing my best, and I think things are turning around.

"At the moment, I have no fights lined up. I hope to get at least one good bout this year.

"I have been struggling on this win-lose streak.

"My ultimate goal is to regain my form and winning ways this year.

"I want to, at least, win one or two bouts before the end of the year."

Agilan, also known as 'The Alligator', defeated American Dante Schiro via a split decision in December 2019 but lost to Tyler McGuire (US) in his last fight five month ago via unanimous decision.

Outside the ring, Agilan has taken time out to give back as a Foodpanda ambassador together with fellow fighter Jihin Radzuan.

They were part of Foodpanda's 'Delighting Drivers' campaign, honouring the efforts and sacrifices made by delivery personnel, including riders and drivers.

They gave out 100 ONE Championship masks to delivery personnel.

"I have worked as a delivery rider before, not for Foodpanda but a restaurant, so I really appreciate what all of their riders and drivers do," Agilan added.

"It is tough delivering food to our doorsteps. These people are front liners."
