Danish to make debut in Rookies Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Hakim Danish Ramli will be taking baby steps when he debuts in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Portimao, Portugal.

The 15-year-old rider underlined his potential as the next big thing in Malaysian motorsports by winning the Asia Talent Cup last year.

But he expects a stiff challenge competing against the world's up and coming riders.

The Terengganu-born Hakim left for Europe today, and will start his campaign at the Algarve International Circuit from March 25-26.

"The first race will be held in Portimao (Algarve) and it's my first race in the Red Bull Rookies Cup. I believe I have prepared well with training every day except on Sundays," said Hakim Danish.

"In terms of competition, I think there will be a lot of riders who are fast and I aim to improve from one race to the next... I will aim to do my best."

The SIC Racing Team rider said that the team have not set any specific target for him in his debut season but he aims to make an impact.

"There's no target for me, I just focus on myself, to complete the races and finish as high as possible," said Hakim Danish who will be accompanied by another Malaysian rider Danial Syahmi Ahmad Shahril.

Danial Syahmi is in his second season in the Red Bull Rookies Cup and last season he finished 13th overall after collecting 49 points.

The 2023 Red Bull Rookies Cup is a seven-round race which flags off in Portimao before ending at the Misano track in Italy from Sept 9-10.
