End game for all Malaysians at Worlds

Malaysia's challenge at the World Squash Championships fizzled out in the second round with the exits of all four players.

The women's trio of Low Wee Wern, S. Sivasangari and Rachel Arnold put up strong challenges but were not enough as they fell to higher-ranked players at the University Club of Chicago on Friday.

National No 1 Wee Wern was the first to bow out, losing 11-9, 4-11, 11-9, 11-8 to World No 13 and home favourite Olivia Clyne.

National No 2 Sivasangari also gave a good account before going down 11-6, 12-10, 3-11, 13-11 to World No 14 Nele Gilis of Belgium.

"It was a close game, and I'm definitely frustrated not to get the win today," said Sivasangari.

"I found my rhythm in the second game but some decisions just went against my way during the match.

"I am definitely closing the gap on the elite players and giving them hard matches on tour, but I just need to be more consistent when it matters."

Rachel also put up a solid showing but faltered towards the end as she lost 12-14, 13-11, 11-4, 11-7 to World No 18 Nadine Shahin of Egypt.

In the men's event, national No 1 Ng Eain Yow played well in patches in his 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 defeat to World No 1 Ali Farag of Egypt.

The Malaysian players will now look to regroup for the Manchester Open on Aug 9-13.
