Time for a 'Bitah' chill after Olympic Games pressure

Fresh from a best-ever individual showing at the Olympics, diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri is happy to release some of the pent-up stress, but is keeping herself in check at the same time.

The 22-year-old, fondly known as "Bitah", was a picture of consistency en route to finishing fourth in the women's 3m springboard event on Sunday.

Although she finished out of the medals, the 326.15 total was her best individual score since the 344.40 she tallied to finish third at the 2019 World Series in London.

Dhabitah wants to stay grounded, with the Paris Olympics in 2024 being her next target.

And Dhabitah also hinted at making a return to diving in the 10m events in the foreseeable future.

"I definitely want to dive in the 10m events again," said Dhabitah, who finished ninth in the 10m platform final at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

"But right now, I just want to relax a little after a tough competition.

"I'm not too sure where I'll be in the future, but I see myself improving.

"I want to be in Paris in 2024.

"I think I've done well in training under Christian (Brooker) and would love to continue under him. Although maybe we can discuss a little in the future to see what adjustments can be made to improve."

Dhabitah also revealed that she's fortunate enough to receive some tips from China's Shi Tingmao on how to improve.

The 29-year-old Tingmao, an eight-time world champion, was a class above the field as she romped to the gold on Sunday.

"She is friendly, and I had the opportunity to ask her how she progressed in springboard," said Dhabitah.

"She gave some useful advice, and I would definitely look to implement that in my training when I return home."

Meanwhile, Dhabitah added that she hoped her performance in Tokyo would inspire more girls to get involved in diving.

"I love to try and be an ambassador for the sport, and I want to show the future generation what it's like diving at the Olympics," said Dhabitah.

"I hope that there will be many more young girls who will be inspired to try out diving as well.

"And in terms of development, we need more divers and competitions, especially internal meets to keep us in the competitive mode.

"But for now, I just want to enjoy myself a little after the competition as it has been very stressful training in a quarantine bubble leading up to the Games.

"So it is been really nice to be able to walk around here (in Tokyo) and meet people from other countries after so long."
