OSK Foundation rewards all 22 Paralympic athletes

There was a handsome monetary shot in the arm for the para-athletes who were in Tokyo recently for the Paralympic Games.

Following the Paralympians success, OSK Foundation came forward to award a total of RM100,500 to all 22 athletes who competed in Tokyo.

Gold medallists Abdul Latif Romly (long jump), Bonnie Bunyau Gustin (powerlifting) and Cheah Liek Hou (badminton) received RM15,000 each.

Silver medallists Chew Wei Lun (boccia) and Jong Yee Khie (powerlifting) pocketed RM10,000 each.

Additionally, all the other Paralympic athletes received RM1,500 each for their efforts and determination.

To top it off, OSK also awarded the Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) RM10,000 as an appreciation token.

Malaysia achieved their best-ever Paralympic haul in Tokyo by winning three gold and two silver medals.

Five years ago in Rio, the Malaysian contingent won three gold and one bronze.

"We hope our support will inspire these para-athletes to continue doing well in their respective events," said OSK Foundation chief executive officer Cheryl Ong during the virtual ceremony yesterday.

"Their achievements have inspired all Malaysians to lead an active and purposeful life, and more importantly, to believe in our own abilities and dream big.

"We hope the experience in Tokyo will further inspire and spur the birth of a new generation of Paralympic talents to come forward in the future."

PCM president Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin said: "We are delighted with the generous gesture by OSK Foundation, and this is one of the largest contributions by a single private organisation to honour our para-athletes."
