Nauraj misses his great rival

High jumper Nauraj Singh is confident of keeping the gold medal in Malaysia's hand at the Hanoi Sea Games from May 12-23.

The high jump gold has been in Malaysia's possession for the last 12 years with the retired Lee Hup Wei and Nauraj sharing the domination.

Hup Wei won the Sea Games gold in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2019 before Nauraj dethroned the former by winning in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

World No 38 Nauraj admitted that he will miss the rivalry with his good friend Hup Wei, but he's ready to carry the Malaysian flag in Vietnam.

Nauraj's season-best 2.27m has put him as the favourite for the gold in Vietnam and he's ready to deliver.

"Every time I compete, it's not about me. I'm carrying the Malaysian flag, it is always for the country," said the Johorean.

"I would prefer to have Hup Wei with me, we go way back and trained together.

"I will miss Hup Wei a lot, I'm already missing him and I hope he also misses me."
