Shahriman to run for president of APSF

KUALA LUMPUR: Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) president Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin has set his sights on the Asean Para Sports Federation's (APSF) top post.

Shahriman said he will contest for the president's post at the APSF elections.

The elections will be held during the Asean Para Games in Solo, Indonesia from July 30 - Aug 6.

Shahriman hopes to revamp APSF and elevate the status of the Asean body in the sporting world.

"I think we have done a good job at PCM, and I have been encouraged by the support of our members here (to contest for the post)," said Shahriman today.

"Thailand have held the president's position for seven years now. This has caused discontent (among member countries) as there is supposed to be a rotation after four years.

"I think APSF have a lot of room for improvement. They can be better in terms of administration. There is a lot of uncertainty at the moment.

"APSF are also somewhat left behind technology-wise, a lot is still manually done. There is also no (permanent) headquarters.

If I win, I will offer improvements in those areas and possibly set up a head office for APSF.

"I would like to take APSF to greater heights and boost their image in the sporting world."

Thailand's Major General Osoth Bhavilai has been the president since 2015.
