The Germany-based athlete who holds the national record of 2.30m set in 2017, revealed that he had injured his heel.

"I can't say much now, I have trained hard and prepared well for the Commonwealth Games," said Nauraj of his performance in his third Commonwealth outing Games.

"I felt good before the competition but I couldn't make the jump. I had pain in my heels."

"I'm very disappointed and angry... you know that I can't accept failures. Furthermore, the Commonwealth Games is hosted every four years"

A dejected Nauraj then walked away from the mixed zone and kneeled at the exit trying to hold back his tears.

An official attemped to console him and gave him a bottle of water.

Last month, Nauraj failed to clear 2.17m in the qualifying round at the World Championship in Oregon, United States,

In May, Malaysia's dominance in the Sea Games men's high jump event since 2005, came to a sad end with Nauraj winning silver (2.18m) at the Hano Sea Games.
