Wendy finally achieves dream

Wendy Ng was in tears after finally ending her wait for a Commonwealth Games medal at Sandwell Aquatics Centre today.

The seasoned campaigner and Nur Dhabitah Sabri claimed the women's 3m springboard synchro silver medal with 299.85 points.

Teammate Dhabitah had to console Wendy when they were confirmed as the silver medallists.

The silver is also Malaysia's best achievement in the women's springboard synchro event. Dhabitah partnered Leong Mun Yee, serving now as the team manager, to take bronze in Gold Coast, four years ago.

Australia's Maddison Keeney-Anabelle Smith, the bronze medallist at the World Championships in Budapest last month, took gold with 316.53 points. Margo Claire Erlam-Mia Vallee of Canada settled for the bronze in the five-pair competition on 297.00.

"I have had no luck in three previous editions, and I am not getting any younger also.

"I think my best finish was fourth in the springboard individual in Glasgow (2014), but this was my best chance, perhaps.

"I just don't know what to say now. I am just grateful I did everything right and so is Dhabitah.

"I tried to relax and not think too much about the pressure to get a medal for Malaysia," said Wendy, 29, who is the second most experienced diver after reigning World Cup champion Pandelela Rinong in the national team.

Wendy will feature in the springboard individual and mixed springboard synchro with Gabriel Gilbert Daim.

Ooi Tze Liang made the top 12 final for the men's 3m springboard individual earlier with 394.85 points.

Tze Liang was the winner of the event at the 2014 Glasgow edition. Australia's Li Shixin topped the preliminaries with 456.65 points ahead of Jamaica's Yona Roshen Knight-Wisdom (446.85) and Daniel Goodfellow of England (430.05).
