Malaysia targets Junior World Cup semi-finals

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) has set a semi-final target for the Junior World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in December next year.

MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal hopes coach Amin Rahim will mould a solid national junior squad for the mission.

"We hope Malaysia will shine at this Junior World Cup as we are the hosts. We have to fight and achieve the semi-final target," said Subahan during the Sultan of Johor Cup press conference here today.

"The Sultan of Johor Cup will offer the juniors valuable experience.

"The team will also play test matches overseas ahead of the Junior World Cup."

Australia, Japan, Britain, India and South Africa make up the teams at the Sultan of Johor Cup on Oct 22-29. Malaysia will open their campaign against India on Oct 22. - Bernama
