'This is my Sukma' [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: It turned out to be a one-man show in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) men's 100m final, with Perak's Azeem Fahmi easily winning the gold medal today.

The 18-year-old clocked 10.25s for the gold at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Johor's Arsyad Saat recorded a personal best of 10.46 for the silver, while 2019 Manila Sea Games champion Haiqal Hanafi of Negri Sembilan won the bronze (10.50).

Azeem, who holds the national record of 10.09, jumped for joy after crossing the finish line.

"This is my Sukma. I have finally won gold in the blue riband event at the Games. It was my main target," said Azeem today.

"I had no target to dip below 10 seconds today.

"The target was to maintain around 10.30 in the final. I did well by clocking 10.25.

"Arsyad and Haiqal gave me a good fight, but I ran my own race as I always do.

"In the 2018 edition, I finished eighth, and today I have won it.

"It is great to win gold in my last 100m race of the season."

Azeem's next target is the 4x100m tomorrow and the 200m on Sunday.

"I want to win both events. I hope to dip below 21 seconds in the 200m. It will be great if I do better than my PB of 20.83 in the event."

Meanwhile, Nor Sarah Adi of Pahang won the women's 100m.

The 22-year-old led 30m into the race and won it in 11.91.

Sabah's Nur Aishah Rofina Aling clocked 12.08 for the silver, while Selangor's Nur Afrina Batrisyia Rizal took the bronze in 12.10.

Sarah, who won the pole vault gold at the Hanoi Sea Games in May, was thrilled to win her first Malaysia Games title.

"My next event is the pole vault, and I hope to win the event. Today, I stayed calm to win the 100m final."
