Pahang win two hockey gold in Malaysia Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang dethroned Selangor 2-1 in the women's hockey final of the Malaysia Games at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

And the East Coast state made it a double when their men's team beat Johor 1-0 with a 59th minute goal from Idris Samad.

In a tense women's final, Pahang scored first through Nur Atiqah Sutimi in the 25th minute, but Selangor equalised in the 53rd via Nur Idrina Yusmi.

Wan Norfatihah Saiuti then struck the winner for Pahang in the 60th minute, just seconds before the final buzzer.

Pahang women's coach Sabri Mohamed has been coaching most of the players since they were in Form One.

The majority of the players are from the state Sports School in Temerloh, with three from Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School.

"I have been with these players since they were 13 years old and together we had progressed from age group tournaments.

"We were held 1-1 by Selangor in the group stage, and we knew it was not going to be an easy final but in the end we met our target," said Sabri who is a full time coach in the Temerloh Sports School.

RESULTS:

Men's final: Johor 0 Pahang 1.

Third placing: Perak 7 Terengganu 4.
