Speedy Tigers stun world No 2 Belgium

KUALA LUMPUR: World No 10 Malaysia stunned world no 2 Belgium 1-0 at the Sportcentrum Wilrijkse Plein in Antwerpen today.

Defender Razie Rahim was the toast of Speedy Tigers with a goal via penalty corner in the 35th minute.

National coach A. Arulselvaraj praised his players for putting up a good performance against Belgium, who fielded a mixed team of seniors and backup players.

"All our hard work in training paid off. My players were confident throughout the game.

"Belgium had more circle penetration and penalty corners, but we did well to defend. We need to focus more on our circle penetration, which was lacking.

"We have another match tomorrow (at 6pm Malaysian time) against Belgium," said Arul.

The four-match playing tour in Belgium is part of the preparation for next year's World Cup in India.

Meanwhile, Malaysia will open their World Cup Group C campaign against Holland in Rourkela, India on Jan 14.

Malaysia will play Chile two days later and New Zealand in Bhubaneswar on Jan 19.
