14-year-old NHDP hockey trainee dies at training camp

KUALA LUMPUR: A National Hockey Development Programme (NHDP) trainee died at a training camp in Ipoh, Perak, today.

The goalkeepers clinic is one of the support events for the ongoing Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

Bill Wolfson Lianie, 14, was from SMK Penrissen, Kuching, Sarawak.

Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) said Bill, a goalkeeper, took a shower with his teammates before complaining about feeling uneasy.

He fainted in his room.

Bill was transferred to an ambulance, and CPR was performed.

He was taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death is still unknown.

Bill was one of the trainees for the two-day MHC-AHF-Perak HA goalkeepers clinic, which started on Saturday, at the Raja Ashman Shah Academy in Ipoh.

Sarawak state coach Wilina Mac Carina Wilson was present at the clinic.

NFDP officials have informed Bill's family, and his body will be taken to Kuching.

MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal and Perak HA president Sayuti Abdul Samat, who were at the hospital, expressed their condolences to Bill's family and friends.
